Sargassum Angler (Histrio histrio) Care
The Sargassum Angler, Histrio histrio, is also known as the Sargassumfish. These fish can be found all over the world, but are most often imported from Eastern Asia. They look very similar to a rock, having a body of mottled brown, yellow, white, and tan. They have smooth skin and can change their colors to match their surroundings. Their skin is covered with dermal flaps, which makes them blend better with surrounding algae and rocks.enables them to blend in even better.
Sargassum Anglers are carnivores and may eat small tankmates, including fish and inverts. They use a bait-like appendage, called the esca, to attract prey within striking distance and will swallow victims whole. They should be fed a diet of small feeder shrimp and fish, preferably marine species.
They do well in an aquarium of at least 30 gallons or more with live rock.
