Chalk Bass (Serranus tortugarum) Care
The Chalk Bass, Serranus tortugarum, comes from the Atlantic Ocean, including the Caribbean Sea. The body is a pale purple color with thick brownish/orange bars bisected by smaller bright blue bars on the upper body. These fish are a great choice for beginners because they are very hardy.
Basslets are carnivores and require a diet of small meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp and brine.
They should be kept in a tank of at least 30-gallons with plenty of live rock for hiding. If you want to add more than one of these, they should be added to the tank at the same time.
They are reef safe and will not bother other fish, invertebrates or corals.
