Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor) Care
The Bicolor Blenny, Ecsenius bicolor, is also known as the Two-colored Blenny. These fish come from throughout the Indo-Pacific region. The front half of the body is a dark blue/gray to purple color and the rear half fades into a burnt orange to brown color. Blennies are a wonderful addition to aquariums whether you are a beginner or an expert, they have great personalities and are peaceful, easy to care for and typically reef safe.
These blennies are herbivores and require a diet rich in plant matter. In addition to controlling algae growth in the tank, they will eat frozen and dried forms are marine algae. They should be fed as often as necessary to keep them healthy. It is important to ensure that other, more aggressive fish are not preventing your blenny from getting food.
These fish require an aquarium of at least 30 gallons that has plenty of live rock with hiding places. Blennies love to hide in rocks with only their head out so they can survey their surroundings. They should be housed with other peaceful tankmates.
The Bicolor Blenny is considered reef safe and peaceful but has been known to pick on other fish or nip at corals and sessile inverts in smaller tanks.
