Pakistan Butterflyfish (Chaetodon collare) Care
The Pakistan Butterflyfish, Chaetodon collare, is also known as Redtail Butterflyfish and the Collare Butterflyfish. These fish come from the Indo-West Pacific region. The body is a brown to black color with yellow-gold spotted scales. There are alternating vertical white and black bands on the face and head. The tail has a wide red band followed by more narrow black and white bands.
These butterflyfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as crab meat, frozen plankton, mysis and brine shrimp, and live shrimp and worms. They should be fed several times a day.
The Pakistan Butterflyfish can reach lengths of up to 7″ and will do best in an aquarium of at least 125 gallons with plenty of live rock to hide in. They will thrive in a large fish-only aquarium with lots of open swimming space and live rock hiding places.
The fish are considered reef safe “with caution” as they may nip at both corals and invertebrates.
