Pajama Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera) Care
The Pajama Cardinalfish, Sphaeramia nematoptera, comes from across the Indo-Pacific region. These fish are divided by a dark band that bisects the body vertically. The face is a greenish-yellow color and that back is silvery-white with red dots.
These fun fish are a good beginner fish – they are colorful, hardy, peaceful, and reef friendly.
Cardinalfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood and flake food.
The Pajama Cardinal will only grow to about 3″ and can be housed in aquariums as small as 30 gallons with plenty of hiding places. They are best kept in small groups of up to 5 with other non-aggressive fish. If housed with more aggressive fish, they will spend much of the day hiding.
These fish are reef safe and will not nip at corals nor invertebrates.
