Alleni Damsel (Pomacentrus alleni) Care
The Alleni Damsel, Pomacentrus alleni, is also known as the Neon Damsel, Andaman Damsel, and Allen’s Damsel. These fish come from the Eastern Indian Ocean region. These beautiful fish have a blue neon body, a yellow anal fin, and a dash of black on the lower tail lobe.
Although damselfish are colorful, hardy, reef safe, and affordable, these little fish can be very feisty and overly aggressive towards their tankmates. In order to curb their aggressive tendencies, these fish should be kept in groups of five to seven members and with non-aggressive tankmates.
Damselfish are omnivores and require a diet rich in both meaty and plant foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, marine algae, and flake food.
The Alleni Damselfish can grow to be about 2½″ and can be housed in aquariums as small as 30 gallons with plenty of live rock and hiding places.
These fish are reef safe and will not bother coral or invertebrates, but may be very aggressive towards other fish.
