Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus) CARE
The Longnose Hawkfish, Oxycirrhites typus, comes from the Indo-Pacific region. They have a beautiful white body with red stripes that run both horizontally and vertically. They have a unique long, slender nose.
Hawkfish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as marine fish and crustacean flesh, clams, and other marine meaty foods and/or frozen carnivore foods.
Longnose Hawkfish require an aquarium of 30 gallons or more with plenty of live rock for hiding and perching places. These fish are semi-aggressive and should not be kept with peaceful fish like anthias, dartfishes, small gobies and flasher wrasses.
They are considered reef safe “with caution” because although they are safe with coral, they may attack both fish and invertebrates.
