Chinstrap Jawfish (Opistognathus sp.) Care
The Chinstrap Jawfish, Opistognathus sp., comes from Eastern Asia. They are a tan-brown color with blotched white spots across the entire body, a dark eyespot near the front of the dorsal fin, and a dark band that runs from the top of the head, behind the eye, down to beneath the chin.
These fish are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp and a variety of finely chopped seafood. They should be fed multiple times a day.
Chinstrap Jawfish require an aquarium of 30 gallons or large with plenty of live rock and a good sandbed with coarse material that can be used to build a protective den. They are peaceful and should be kept with other peaceful tankmates. They are known to jump and will leap out of tanks without a lid.
They are reef safe and will not bother corals, fish, but will eat tiny invertebrates.
