Ritteri Anemone (Heteractis magnifica) Care
The Ritteri Anemone, Heteractis magnifica, is also known as the Magnifica Anemone and the Purple Base Anemone. These anemones come from the Indo-Pacific region. They can grow quite large, even in an aquarium, and come in an array of beautiful colors. They typically will not grow to more than 10″ in diameter in an aquarium. Ritteri anemones require the care of an experienced aquarist.
Anemone’s are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods, such as brine and mysis shrimp. You can feed your anemone small pieces of shrimp and fish – make sure that the pieces are smaller than the anemone’s oral disc.
Ritteri Anemones can be housed in tanks as small as 90 gallons with plenty of live rock. They require high lighting and strong, but intermittent, water flow. These anemones are photosynthetic invertebrates that use a foot to move around until they find a place with the best lighting and water flow. It is important to make sure that you have a cover on any wavemakers or pumps so they do not get caught in them. They are aggressive and may sting corals and eat small fish.
Ritteri Anemones will host several species of clownfish.
