Anemone Hermit Crab (Dardanus pedunculatus) Care
The Anemone Hermit Crab, Dardanus pedunculatus, comes from the Indo-Pacific region. These unusual crabs have a symbiotic relationship with small anemones that live on its shell. These anemones provide protection for the crab and in exchange, the crab feeds the anemones.
Hermit crabs are carnivores that will get most, if not all of their food from scavenging around the tank. Their diet can be supplemented with small pieces mysis shrimp, silver sides, scallop, clam, and mussel. They will eat coral and other invertebrates if they are hungry.
These crabs can grow to about 4″ and should be kept in a tank of at least 24 gallons. They are semi-aggressive and not ideal reef crabs.
