Star Turbo Snail (Astraea phoebia) Care
The Star Turbo Snail, Astraea phoebia, is also known as the Star Snail and the Spiny Star Astrea Snail. These awesome little snails have a cone shape with small projections coming out along the bottom edge of their shell.
These herbivores are algae-eating machines and a wonderful addition to any tanks cleanup crew. They will happily eat green microalgae, hair algae, and brown diatom algae in the sand. They should get most, if not all, of their dietary requirements from algae living in the tank. If your aquarium has limited algae growth you may need to provide supplementary food like vegetable-based pellets or dried seaweed.
They will only grow to about 1″ in size and can be kept in tanks as small as 10 gallons. It is recommended to have at least one of these snails for every 5 gallons of water in your tank.
They are easy to care for and totally reef safe.
NOTE: They can be very sensitive to changes in salinity so be sure to give them plenty of acclimation time.
